Why a psychiatrist

Sports psychiatrist or sports psychologist?

Both help. The difference is that a psychiatrist is a medical doctor, so the medical side of performance is covered too.

Dr. Loungani · Sports psychiatrist
  • A medical doctor (MD), double board-certified in psychiatry
  • Diagnoses what is going on, including ADHD, anxiety, depression and sleep problems
  • Orders objective testing, such as QbCheck for attention and focus
  • Can prescribe and manage medication when it is the right choice, with any drug-testing rules you follow taken into account
  • Treats substance use
Sports psychologist or mental performance coach
  • Works on mental skills, routines and mindset
  • Talk-based sessions and performance techniques
  • Does not prescribe medication

Already working with one? That is common. Bring what you have to your first appointment.

Focus under pressure

Attention, measured, not guessed

QbCheck is an FDA-cleared computer test that measures attention, impulsivity and activity. It gives objective, comparable data instead of subjective impressions alone.

  • Taken at home, on your own laptopNo waiting room and no proctor, so it fits around training and travel.
  • Read before you sit downYour results are already read and understood by the time you meet Dr. Loungani.
  • Part of a full evaluationTesting sits alongside a physician exam, so the plan rests on data as well as conversation.

Common questions

Before you book

Is this confidential?
Yes. What you discuss with Dr. Loungani stays private. We do not share anything with a coach, employer or agent unless you give written permission, except where the law requires it.
Can appointments work around training, travel or work?
Yes. You can do the first appointment in person in Jacksonville Beach and follow-ups by secure video. Call the office to talk through timing.
Can I see Dr. Loungani by telehealth from my state?
Telepsychiatry is available in Florida and Georgia. Through Enhance Psych Network, Dr. Loungani and his nurse practitioners are adding licenses in more states. Call (904) 705-9335 to confirm care in your state.
I am drug tested. Can my care take that into account?
Yes. Tell Dr. Loungani about any testing rules you follow at your first appointment, and your plan takes them into account.
Will I be put on medication?
Not automatically. Dr. Loungani explains the options, including approaches that do not involve medication, and you decide together.
Is the first 15-minute consult really free?
Yes. It is a short phone call so you can describe what is going on and we can tell you honestly whether we are the right fit before anyone books anything.
What if I have already seen someone?
That is common. Bring what you have: previous notes, what was tried and what happened. It usually shortens the road rather than lengthening it.
